Barbara Fay (Simpson) Mullen, 83, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Viewcrest Health Center. She was born on July 19, 1936, to Leroy and Ethel (Brown) Simpson in Sawyer Township, MN. She graduated from Carlton High School. Barb loved the outdoors basking in the sun. She retired in 1999 as a Cardiology Technician from St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. She was tasked with the implementation of the first treadmill to be performed in the Northern Region which was one of many rewarding milestones throughout her career.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; sister Gladys (Simpson) Moeller; six brothers, Leroy Jr., Maynard, Arthur, Allan, George, and Robert.
She is survived by her two brothers, Ronald (Lorraine) of Duluth and Carl (Okien) of Beijing, China; five children: son Terrance (Kathy) of Cloquet and grandchildren Ryan, Keith, and Kelly; son Thomas (Kimberly) of Saginaw and grandchildren Brittany, Jamie and Kyle; daughter Sandra Mullen (Cheryl Syrett) of Duluth and grandson Jerry; son Patrick of Duluth; former daughter-in-law Becky Mullen of Esko and grandchildren Kevin, Stephanie and Kyle; and son Daniel of Tampa FL; twelve great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at Viewcrest Health Center and the St. Mary’s Hospice Team for providing a comfortable end of life transition.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Funeral Chapel (4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth). A service will follow at 3:00pm. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
