Harriet Geraldine Gedney, 86, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at May Creek Cottages in Walker, Minnesota.
Harriet Geraldine Gedney was born in Kennedy, MN to Harry and Jorgine Rickenberg. She grew up on the family farm and graduated high school from Karlstad. She went to Aakers School of Business and finished with a secretarial / administrative degree. She moved to North Dakota to work and then was off to Minneapolis to find work. There she met and married James Gedney and they moved to Blaine after their first daughter Trish was born. They had three more daughters; Carol, Shari and Cindy. She stayed at home while her daughters were young and worked part time jobs. After her youngest started school she went back into the work force in administrative positions at Westwood Junior High School in Blaine and then CNA Insurance in Minneapolis. She moved back to Minneapolis in 1987 and stayed there for almost 25 years until she was unable to live alone. Then it was back to the northern suburbs – living with daughter Carol and family and then daughter Cindy and family in Walker. She spent her last 4 ½ years living in Walker. She loved spending time with family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter – Trish (Ron) McCarthy, son-in-law John Walter, daughters Shari (Mike) Rautmann and Cindy (Dana) Pitt. Grandchildren – Shannon (John) Kozubik, Chad (Nicole) McCarthy, Julia (Jeff) Fahey, John Henry Walter, Drew, Jake and Rachel Pitt. Great-grandchildren – John Thomas, Kate and Ben Kozubik, Charlotte and Connor McCarthy. Brothers – James (Helen) Rickenberg and Ronald Rickenberg.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Walter, great-grandson Alex Kozubik, brothers: Archie Rickenberg and Alan Rickenberg and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church (641 89th Ave NE) in Blaine, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service.
