Marlys May Wise

Marlys May (Werner) Wise, 85, of Laporte, MN passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Aitkin, MN. Marlys was born in New Ulm, MN April 27, 1934 to Gilbert and Eleanora (Schroeder) Werner.  She went to grade school in New Ulm, moved to Nicollet for two years, and then to Glencoe where she graduated from high school in 1952.  After high school, she attended the Licensed Practical Nursing Program in New Ulm.  After graduation she worked at the Granite Falls Hospital and the Granite Falls Tuberculosis Sanitarium.  She met Lloyd Duaine Wise and they married on May 25, 1956. In 1957 they moved to Gibbon, MN.  She began employment at the Gaylord Hospital and worked there until it closed.  She then worked at the Winthrop Nursing Home and later the Fairfax Nursing Home until she retired.  After retiring, Marlys and Duaine moved to the Walker area in 1992 and later settled on Garfield Lake, near Laporte, in 2003.

Marlys loved spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed being at the lake, fishing, doing crafts, watching sports, crocheting, and reading, and quilting was her passion in her later years.

She is survived by children Brian (Tammie) Wise and Michelle (Wise) Bruns;  grandchildren Mitchel Bruns, Micah Bruns (Katie), Trent Wise (Katie), Josie Wise, Megan Bruns, McKay Wise; and great grandchildren Roman and Warren Wise; brothers Myron (Ruth) Werner, Darrel (Judy) Werner, sisters Shirley Anklam, Marilyn (Don) Zabel, Lila Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd; grandson McHale Duaine Bruns; sister Elaine Blank; brothers-in-law Larry Anklam, Vern Blank, and DeVere Martin; and parents Gilbert and Eleanora Werner. 

A private funeral, for family only, will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Dennis Funeral Home in Walker, MN.   Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home/Midwest Cremation Association of Walker, Minnesota.
