Alfred Peter Thomas III

Alfred Peter Thomas III, ”NiiTaa Mii gaabwa Makwa” which means “The Front Sitting Bear”, age 33 young of Ponemah and the Bullhead Clan, began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, May 12, 2025 from Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN.

Alfred was born on July 31, 1991 to Alfred Thomas Jr and Lorraine Olson-King. Alfred was raised in Ponemah and also Warroad, MN, where his mother Lorraine met and married Brian Olson, who loved Alfred very much. Alfred graduated from Warroad High School in 2010. This is where he met his high school sweetheart LaBria. They went on to college in Bemidji, MN, where they went on to settle and married, welcoming two beautiful children, Olivia (13) and Amaro (10).  Alfred worked as a Security Guard in Warroad, MN – Seven Clans Casino, and as a package handler for UPS in Bemidji, MN. His best work was being a loving father and devoted husband. Alfred was known as a “quiet, shy guy” but all his friends and family knew and loved his spontaneous and quick sense of humor. He was strong and handsome. He was a loyal Vikings fan. Alfred liked walks and he loved to play basketball with his children and family. He seldom played at the casino, but when he did, he had that “Thomas Luck”. He could walk in with a few bucks and leave ahead. Alfred enjoyed horror cinema and comedy sitcoms, such as Seinfeld, The Office and King of Queens. His favorite pastime – he loved being in the company of his wife, children and family.

Alfred is survived by his wife: LaBria; children: Olivia and Amaro; mother: Lorraine Olson-King; siblings: Evan (Jerilyn) Thomas, Jillian Thomas and Peter Allen King (Carlene); nieces and nephews: Alex, Jayden, Callie, Gloria, Marvin “Sonny”, Carter, Taleigha and Grayson.

He is preceded in death by biological father: Alfred Thomas Jr; father who helped raise him: Brian Olson; maternal grandparents: Susan King and Peter Smith; paternal grandparents: Alfred Thomas I and Gloria Thomas; great-grandparents: Johnson Kingbird; siblings: Sherri Thomas and Brandon Olson; cousins: Royal King and April King; uncles: Richard “Biddy” Thomas and Gus Spears; aunts: Bev Thomas and Judy Spears.

A wake will begin at 2 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club and will continue until the service at 10 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2025 with Spiritual Leader Allen Hardy.  Active Pallbearers will be Peter Allan King, Jason King, Avery Kingbird, Andreas King, Angelo King, Austin Major and Kevin Major Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Roberta Major, Sydney Major, Faye King, Eva Kingbird, Thelma King, Louis King, Ole Spears, Jillian Thomas and Evan Thomas, and all family and friends. Burial will be at the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
