It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allen D. English Sr (Big Al), who left us on August 14, 2024 at the age of 52. He was born on August 27, 1971 to Delores J. English and George Garcia in Red Lake, MN.
Al attended school in Wahpeton, ND and he graduated from the Red Lake Senior High School as Salutatorian with many Honors such as the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Dan Raincloud Scholarships. Al then joined the Navy where he became a Quartermaster 3rd Class and Helmseman Planesman on the USS Tecumseh and the USS Greyling. Al lived most of his time in Red Lake, MN, and was employed at the Red Lake Housing Authority for many years and was also a General Contractor. He loved working with his hands, from being a mechanic to carpentry work. He was always willing to help his family and friends.
He will fondly be remembered as a beloved Son, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Gunkle and Nephew. He was a die-hard Minnesota sports fan, he loved to play and follow his sons, family and friends to softball games and tournaments. He also loved to hunt, fish, play pool, cribbage, bowl, play rummy royal card games and especially loved to spend his time with family and friends. His kindness and generosity of spirit created lasting memories that will be treasured by all who loved him.
Allen is survived by his Mother, Delores J. English; Son’s, Allen (Autumn), Alex (Brianna) and Aaron English; Grandchildren Caden, Ensilee, Thea & Baby Kobe English; Sisters, AnnMarie (Richard) English-Defoe, Adawnya Nance; Brother David Smith; Nephew and Neices Ray, Ryla, Rhyanne and Liz. Aunts, Rose Barrett, Lisa Sumner, and Marge Garcia. Also, numerous extended family members and special cousins, Delwyn English Sr, Kevin Sumner, Tammy Cobenais, Dawn Barrett, Buffy Barrett and April Barrett.
Allen is preceded in death by his Father, George Garcia, Grand Parents, Allen F. English Sr and Phyllis L. Sumner, Ennis & Frank Johnson. Great Grand Parents, George & Elizabeth (Lizzie) English, Uncles Allen F. English Jr., Dale G. English Sr., Gary L. Sumner, and Joey Sumner, Aunts Carol English-Hunt, Connie Sumner, Leewayne English Sr and Leewayne English Jr.
The wake will begin at 1PM on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Old Red Lake Community Center and continue until the service at 1pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 with Father George Ross officiating.
Active Pallbearers will be: Alex English, Aaron English, Mike Roberts, Jaren Barrett, Justin Barrett, Kevin Sumner, Frankie Pappsadora-Clark, Delwyn English Sr., Delwyn English Jr., Rodney Cobenais
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Nick English, Tyler Neadeau, Wally Holstein, Richard Defoe, Chris Schoenborn, Duane (Ole) Spears, Charles (Whee) Charnoski Jr., Rexford Strong, Jeff Jourdain, Anthony Roberts, Charlotte Roberts-Barrett, Cheryl Thomas, and Pam Iceman. Softball Teams Renegades, Little Rock, Young Gunz, Bemidji Collision Center and the Minnesota Vikings (to let him down one last time).
Burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
