Allyssa Rose Dow, Anangookwe (Star Woman) of the Owaazisii (Bullhead) Clan, age 22, began her journey to the spirit world on April 11, 2026 in Red Lake, MN.
Allyssa was born on December 9, 2003 to Dewayne Miller Dow Sr and Marie Alice Spears in Bemidji, MN. Allyssa was a Telecommunications Officer at the Red Lake Department of Public Safety. She was self-taught at beading and going to start sewing. She loved to sketch and draw and was very good at it. She excelled at anything she did. She loved driving listening to her music or chat or be home to game with friends, loved to travel, going to numerous concerts and riding Harley with her mama. She was a dedicated, brilliant, very well-loved TrekNorth student. She was active in school traveling to West Virginia and South Texas on service trips, and a leader in the National Honor Society, Native Youth Council and Student Council. She was recognized nationally by the College Board as an AP Scholar, Indigenous AP Scholar, and Rural Schools AP Scholar. She attended Hamline University in Saint Paul and Red Lake Nation College. Allyssa loved her family and friends; she had many special friends. Allyssa had a special gift to make those she was with feel special and included; she never let anyone feel left out. Allyssa always had good smelling feet!!
Allyssa is survived by her mom Marie; brothers Brandon, Anthony, Michael, Charles and Dewayne Jr; sisters Alexandra and Samantha; soul sister Ally “Pooks”; special sisters: Kyleigh Thunder, Gezelle (Makoons), Ditto, Bria, Brina, Mari, Kyleisha, Cynthia and Trinity; special brothers Phrank, Briar, Isaiah, Cedric, Mark, Louis, Rich, Maddox and Jerol; aunts Shelly, Leah, Roxanne, Sue, Olive (Kenny) and Joyce; uncles: George “Don”, Edward, Bruce, Wilfred and Robert; niece: Cadence; special aunts Christine, Flo, Arlene, Erica, Sharon, Angela, Laura, Aaron, Diane, Nicole and Allison; special uncles Vince, Geoff, Pat, Paul, Justin, Joe and Will; special niece Abigail; special online and traveling friends Joey, Jacqalynn, Max, Gabe and Sarah; several nieces and nephews; and her feline son Bufort.
She was preceded in death by her dad Dewayne; grandparents Myrna, Don, Rose, Grover and Irene; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A wake will begin at 4 PM on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Redby Center and will continue until the service at 10 AM on Saturday, April 18, 2026 with Spiritual Leader Ty Stately. Active Pallbearers will be Kyler, Elias, George, Jerol, Cedric, Will. Alternates: George “Don”, Michael, Brandon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Special Friends and Teachers at TrekNorth and the Red Lake Department of Public Safety staff and All Her Nieces and Nephews. Burial will be at the Family Burial Grounds in Redby, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
