Andrew Jones Obituary

Andrew Roy Jones, Gewaydinoo Inini “North Man”, of the Kingfisher clan began his journey to the spirit world on August 17, 2024.  He was born on March 29, 1978 in Cass Lake, MN to Della and James Jones Sr.  He grew up in Cass Lake and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He loved hunting, ricing, setting nets and trapping, and playing football.  He enjoyed drumming with his brothers on the Cass Lake drum group and dancing grass dance. He loved watching WWE and the Dukes of Hazzard, for which he fondly carried the nickname “Roscoe.”

He met Leila Northbird while working together at the Palace Casino in 2004.  Together they built a life with their three children.  Andrew and Leila were married traditionally on June 15, 2013.  Andrew loved and adored his children; they were his pride and joy.  He loved travelling to pow wows, attending all the sports games his kids were playing, playing video games with his family, playing cribbage and spades, and getting outdoors as much as possible, collecting maple sugar, netting, ricing, hunting, playing keno, frisbee golf and the MN Vikings.

Andrew loved his nieces and nephews.  He was a big kid himself and would be seen playing nerf wars, going for walks, swimming, sledding or playing football/basketball right along with them.  He helped raise his two younger sisters Felicia and Lakasha and would often have a nephew or niece or many by his side.  He would often travel to Redby to visit his favorite aunt Gloria Cloud and Aunt Andrea Cloud.

Andrew was a hard worker and would help anyone.  He was often doing jobs for family members and friends, fixing cars, household repairs, hauling things, delivering fish and venison from his most recent catch.  He also worked with his brother Jimmy in Archeology. He was so good at identifying game trails and different medicinal plants that tied so well with his archeology trait.  It was here he met his special friend Elly Smith who he spent time with over the last few years.  Together they enjoyed hiking, picking berries and mushrooms, and helping others.

Andrew will be greatly missed by his parents James Jones Sr and Della Jones, his daughter Aalydia (Sissy) Jones, sons Dru (Bae’Bae) Jones and Kyan (Love Bug) Jones, wife Leila Northbird, brothers James (Patti) Jones Jr, Gerald Cloud-Vos, Arthur Jones, Roger (Andrea) Durant, sisters Kim Cloud, Roxi (Alt) Cotton, Felicia Cloud-Jones, Lakasha Cloud, June (Darin) Wilber, numerous loved nieces and nephews and special friend Eleanor Smith.

He is preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents Evelyn Cloud & Ben RedEagle, Cecelia & Roy Cloud, grandparents MaryJane & Andrew Cloud Sr, and Arthur & Katherine Jones, brothers Charles Jones & Joseph Vos, sister Abigail Jones, nephew William Jones and niece Ambria Wind, and special friend Faye Nelson, special aunt Andrea Cloud, and numerous aunts and uncles.
