Barbara Cloud Obituary

Barbara Beatrice (Strong) Cloud passed away at her home in Little Rock (Red Lake, MN) on January 28, 2022.

Her Ojibwe name was Sah-Kah-Tay or Sunshine Woman and belonged to the Bear Clan. She was born in Red Lake on July 26, 1942, to John Strong and Pauline (Green) Fineday. Barbara grew up in Red Lake, went to school and graduated from Red Lake High School. Barb furthered her education at Mankato State University, where she met the love of her life, Lynas Thomas Cloud. They married in 1961, and they had four children. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen, SD and Albuquerque, NM. She moved back to Minneapolis in 1973. Barbara retired from the BIA and moved back to Red Lake in 1995.

Barb was a friend to all she met and she took time to chat it up like there was no tomorrow. She was loved and respected by her large circle of friends and acquaintances. She could be found playing her favourite pastime, Bingo or One-Armed Bandits, in our local casinos. She enjoyed binge watching her favorite TV shows: Finding Bigfoot, Ghost Hunters, Swamp People, Ancient Aliens, Ice Road Truckers. She was an avid reader who enjoyed books of all kinds including mysteries, suspense and of course romance novels by Danielle Steele. Barb also loved her cat, Maxie Baby. Barb found boundless joy in talking to or visiting her Grandson, Matthew Henry Cloud, along with his wondrous Mary Hoang, and lately, her great-grandson Samuel Sinh Cloud.

Survived by sons Thomas and Duane of Red Lake and daughters Cheryl of Bemidji and Luann (Jeremy) of Red Lake. Sister-in-laws Delores Cloud-Hammit (Monte) of Bemidji, Diane Cloud-Sigana of Minneapolis and Clara Strong of Mille Lacs. She had a wealth of Grand Children and Great-Grand Children.

Barbara was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Lynas; brother, Leroy Strong and grandchildren: Justin and Traci.

The wake will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Red Lake Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, with Father John Christianson officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Matthew Cloud, Glennis Bedeau, Vicki Juarez, Mary Hoang and Clara Strong. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service.
