Beulah “Booty” Vadna Hookom, 84, of Akeley, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at her home.
Beulah was born on December 8, 1935, in Cass Lake, Minnesota, to James and Ethel (Bisson) McKeig. She grew up in Cass Lake with her siblings. Beulah married early and had six children who were her first priority in life. She enjoyed fishing with the kids and made sure they learned right from wrong. The family moved to southern Minnesota where they relocated a few times before returning to Cass Lake. In 1978, after the kids were grown, she moved to Minneapolis where she stayed with her sister and took classes in cooking and secretarial skills. Beulah came back to the northland and settled in Akeley with her son Alan. Beulah enjoyed her later years attending rummage sales and searching for treasure in second-hand stores.
Beulah leaves behind her sons Alan Hookom and Scott (Millie) Hookom; daughters Becky Hookom, Terri (Ron) Jones, and Brenda (Charles) Bixler; sisters Ruth Thompson and Rene Jones; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dale Hookom, sister Persia McKeig and brother John McKeig.
A funeral service will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Walker, MN, on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 1:00pm. Inurnment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake. Arrangements for Beulah are being handled by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, Walker MN.
