Bruce Bishop Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bruce Bishop

October 28, 1948 – June 16, 2025

Walker, Minnesota (formerly of Bismarck, North Dakota)

Bruce Bishop, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Walker, Minnesota, on June 16, 2025.

Bruce was born on October 28, 1948, in Glendive, Montana, to Eleanor and Merrill Bishop. He grew up in the heart of a loving, lively household with his four siblings and countless adventures in the small town of Beach that shaped the warm, humble, and hardworking man he became. After graduating from Beach High School, Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. His time in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of duty, discipline, and quiet strength that remained with him throughout his life. Upon returning home, Bruce enrolled at North Dakota State University, where he not only earned a degree in computer technology but also met the love of his life, Roberta Kaiser. The two were married on August 26, 1972, beginning a journey of over five decades together filled with partnership, laughter, and deep devotion.

Bruce and Roberta raised two children, Allison and Nathaniel, whom he guided with quiet wisdom, unconditional support, and a steady hand. He was immensely proud of his children and adored being Grandpa to his four grandchildren and Great-Grandpa to sweet little Leona. Bruce spent 43 dedicated years in the IT field at Bobcat in Gwinner and later in Bismarck. He was admired not only for his technical expertise but for his humble nature, unwavering reliability, and the genuine kindness he brought to the workplace. Retirement didn’t slow Bruce down. Instead, he leaned into the things he loved—biking, skiing, tennis, and giving back to his community. He was a proud member of the Bismarck/Mandan Ski Patrol, a passionate volunteer with the Maah Daah Hey Trail Association, Bismarck/Mandan Tennis Association, and the North Dakota Heritage Center Fossil lab, and an active member of First Presbyterian Church. His love of the outdoors, especially the serenity of the trails, gave him joy and peace. Four years ago, Bruce and Roberta moved to Walker, Minnesota, where they embraced a quieter life nestled among lakes and trails. There, Bruce found new paths to explore and new friendships to cherish.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Roberta; his daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Ryan Quick; his son and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel and Tonya Bishop; his beloved grandchildren, Riley, Seth, and Hannah Quick, and Gus and Keeya Bishop; and his precious great- granddaughter, Leona Bishop. He is also survived by his siblings, Marilynn Randa, Bill (Patti) Bishop, Janell Schnackenberg, Cara (Paul) Emerson, and his special great-nephew, Casey Disney. Bruce leaves behind many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends from both North Dakota and Minnesota.

Bruce’s gentle spirit, quiet humor, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and faith will be deeply missed. He taught those around him the value of humility, the strength of kindness, and the importance of doing what’s right—even when no one is watching. We will carry his memory on every trail we walk, every snow-covered slope we ski, and in every act of quiet generosity we offer the world.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 10 am at First Presbyterian Church, 214 E Thayer Avenue, Bismarck, ND, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and the legacy of a life well-lived.
