Carolyn Louise King, age 79, of Redby, Minnesota, journeyed to the Spirit World on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Red Lake. Carolyn was born on August 29, 1943 in Red Lake.
She grew up on the reservation with her grandma and was known as the “Walleye Warrior.” She was a legend on the lake as a walleye slayer and in the woods as a deer slayer. She married Robert Charwood Jr, who was a Navy Officer from the Leech Lake Reservation and they had 3 children. Carolyn was well-liked and known for her crazy sense of humor. She was an avid collector of arrowheads, loved to go for walks on the beach and by the lake and was quite the picker of blueberries and mushrooms every year. Carolyn was also Secretary on the Fishery Board. She was a very loving grandma and lived for her grandkids, especially her newest great-great grandson, Miciah, who she called “The Greatest” when she met him.
Carolyn is survived by her children Sharon (Miguel) Tapio and Warren Charwood “Son”; grandchildren LeAnn, Renae, Monica, Estilita, Miguel, Enrique, Alexander, Jarred, Brandon, Brooklyn and LaBria; great-grandchildren Cecilia, Sophya, Bianca, and Amanda; brother Lester Gary VanWart Jr; sisters Shirlyn Whitefeather, Mary Lussier “Tiny” and Karen LaRose “Flower” and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Louise Lussier; daughter Anita Charwood “Babe” and twin sister Rosalyn King.
The wake will begin at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Redby Community Center and continue until the service on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM with Fr. John Christianson officiating.
