Charmaine F. Hill

Charmaine Fay Hill, Waa Se Yaa Ban Ookwe “Light of the Morning Woman”, Bear Clan, age 46, travelled to the spirit world on Friday, August 11, 2023, in Fargo, ND.

Charmaine was born on November 16, 1976, in Minneapolis, MN to Rosalie Hill and Bruce Roy. After graduation from Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and served her country, including two overseas tours after 911, until her honorable discharge in 2004. Charmaine was gifted with her hands and was an accomplished quilter, enjoyed beadwork and making moccasins. She was artistic and could make something out of nothing. She had a great sense of humor and infectious laugh. She was a loving mother to her son, Lance, and enjoyed spoiling him and her nieces and nephews.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Lance Thompson; parents: Rosalie Hill and Bruce Roy; siblings: Sheldon Hill, Michelle Hill, Nichole Engelby, Chrystal Engelby; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Charmaine was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Rose and John Hill and paternal grandmother, Mary Roberts.

A traditional wake will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Old Red Lake Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 10AM on Friday, August 18, 2023. Pallbearers will be: Michael Hill, Vincent Hill, Zack Johns, Jeremy Hill, James King, Billie Jean King and alternate, Donalda Desjarlait. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
