Daniel Russel Hart

Daniel Russel Hart, age 79 of Red Lake, MN, passed away on July 19, 2025 in Grand Rapids, MN.

Danny was born on September 2nd, 1945 to William and Dorothy Weise Hart. He started his young life venturing out on his own at the age of 15, moving to Chicago where he became a boxer. He later moved back to Minneapolis, MN. He went to Iron working school and worked in Washington DC, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and other places. He was also a taxi cab driver in Minneapolis and did security at the Seven Clans Casino in both Thief River Falls (Surveillance) and Red Lake.  He met his special friend, Lorraine Brun Chaboyea, in the 1970s. They lived in the cities and later moved back to the Reservation. They continued to be good friends throughout the years. Danny enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his ‘Son’ Dominic James Cook, who he raised since he was five months old; he was the light of his life. Whatever Dom wanted, Danny always made sure he would have it. Danny loved going to all the Red Lake Warrior basketball games. He enjoyed going to the casino and you always knew when Danny was around because you would hear people laughing, getting terrorized by him. He didn’t care what he would say to people just as long as he could make them laugh. He was always a comical guy and good company!

Danny is survived by the son he raised: Dominic James Cook; special friend: Lorraine Chaboyea; daughter: Marylena Jim; special daughters: Debbi Chaboyea, Connie Chaboyea, Dorla Chaboyea and Shelly Chaboyea; special sons: Gary Chaboyea Sr and Arnold Chaboyea; brother, Kevin Hart Sr. and nephews: Lance, Kevin Jr and Jason Hart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Bill Beaulieu; and nephews: Jack and Willy Hart.

A wake will begin at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at New Red Lake Center and will continue until the service at 1 PM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 with Father Bill Butcher officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Dominic Cook, Aaron Chaboyea (CUB), Justin Jourdain, Rekoe Graves, Tre Graves, John Henry Barrett, Hunter Barrett, Elliot Hart, Angelo Hart, Dave Dudley Jr and Shawn Chaboyea Jr (Son Man). Honorary Pallbearers will be Nickel Cook, Jack Neadeau, Gus Strong, Tim Sumner, Marvin Schoenborn, Dale Johns, Sheldon Defoe, Buckwheat Graves, Dave Barrett, Maynard Johns, Kristen Hart, Macy Sayers, Lacy Sayers, Mary Ellen Cook, Marcy Bellanger, Wanda Bellanger, Vi Bellanger, Michelle Reynold and Mary Omen. Burial will be at the Episcopal Cemetery in Red Lake, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Northern Minnesota.
