Darlene Ann Johnson, Ogimaakwe “Boss Lady”, age 77, of Ponemah, MN, travelled to the spirit world on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MN.
Darlene was born on September 7, 1946, in Red Lake, MN, to Harry and Susan (Downfeather) Johnson Jr. in Red Lake, MN. After high school, Darlene went on to earn her nursing degree. She began her career at IHS in Red Lake and later worked as a school nurse at the Ponemah School for many years. Darlene was an avid bowler and played on several leagues over the years. She was gifted with her hands, making beautiful star quilts, blankets and regalia for family and friends. Darlene was an excellent cook. She loved canning vegetables from her garden and everyone looked forward to her family dinners. Darlene enjoyed taking trips to the various casinos to try her luck at the slots. Above all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Millie (Gary Krueth) Johnson, Dell (Boone) Perkins, Challenge (Karmen Fairbanks) Johnson, Katie Perkins, Westin Johnson, Chassidy Johnson; siblings: Darrell (Roxie) Johnson, Linda (Barney Thomas) Perkins, Steve Johnson, Penny (Eugene) Perkins, Gordy Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Those greeting her in the spirit world are her husband, Lloyd Johnson; her parents; sister: Doris Seki; three grandchildren: Chris and Kyle Schoenborn and Cami Johnson.
A traditional wake will begin at Noon on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Ponemah Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah and continue until the service at 10AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 with Allen Hardy as spiritual leader. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Diana Kingbird, Avanell Greenleaf, Donna Johnson, Barb Thomas, Joyce Brown, Vicky Graves, Tom & Becky Pollock, Tammy Patch, Leslie Kingbird, Merri Jo Johnson, Beverly Johnson, Jerri Anderson, Susan Eichstadt, Kelly Perkins, Kip Perkins and Marie Kovar. Burial will be at the Johnson Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah.
