Dawn Steece

Dawn Sophia (Waubiganeese) Steece, 36 years old, passed at home November 14, 2025.

She will be missed by family and friends who've shared her journey. Many enjoyed her baking (apple dumplings) and cooking (Chicken Alfredo). She loved trying new recipes and figuring out how the latest gadget she ordered worked. She loved playing cards (1500), board games (Monopoly) as well as scrolling online for shopping and her games. She was an avid animal lover and cherished each of her pets i.e., Pumpkin, Pretty Kitty, and Caesar. 

She had a kindness that she extended to a lot of people. When the Trading Post held their fruit and produce sale, she would then assemble fruit packages and share with family and friends. People loved her crazy and wicked sense of humor. One thing she loved was teasing her co-workers and making them laugh. She was classy and humble  and still managed to bring a smile to others. 

She is survived by her (Babe), Michael Sumner. Her parents, Arlene Downwind-White and Clifford Steece, Jr., (Cindy). Her paternal grandparents, Clifford Steece, Sr., and Rose Larson and Auntie, Erin Mahoney (Spirit).  Her sisters, Rosalie White and Kassidy Otteson. Lots of family and friends who will miss her greatly.

Waubi will be greeted by her nephew, Mino, maternal parents and grandparents as well as her Uncles Tucker and Adam and Aunties Pat and Elizabeth.

A traditional wake will begin at 2PM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Redby Community Center and continue until the service at 10AM on Sunday, November 23, 2025 with Ty Stately as spiritual leader. Active pallbearers will be: Alvin Downwind, Bruce Jourdain, Jr., Joe Kettle , Christopher Merrill, Waylon Rogers, Xavier (Bear) White and alternates: John Jourdain, John Thomas, Darius St. John. Honorary pallbearers will be: Taniyah Beaulieu, Darian King, Naomi Kingbird, Allison Merrill, Lisa Sayers, Theresa Smith, Lorena Sumner, Michele Sumner. The drum group will be Little Bear Drum Group and the Debwe Motorcycle Group will be providing the escort. Burial will be at the family burial grounds near Redby, MN.
