Delbert James Lasley Sr

Delbert James Lasley Sr, “LAZ”, age 67, passed peacefully at his home on January 26, 2026.

Delbert was born on May 8, 1958 to Jimmie and Delores (English-Smith) Lasley in Red Lake, MN. Delbert graduated high school in 1976 and enlisted in the Navy in 1977. He then attended Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech for Fish & Wildlife in 1982. Delbert had a lifetime career with Red Lake Forestry as a firefighter from 1986 to 2007. He became one of the first Helitack crew members and then “Seat Manager” for Helitack and also a single air tanker manager. Delbert played softball with team “Red Skins”. Riding his Harley Davidson gave him pride and joy! He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and golfing trips. He loved laughing and joking with friends, going out to eat with his wife, Elgene. Most of all, he loved being at home surrounded by his wife and grandchildren and was so happy when his children and others stopped to visit.

Delbert is survived by his wife: Elgene Lasley; children: Clinton (Michelle) May, Farrah (Herb) Nelson, Brian Brun Sr, Sarina Lasley, Delbert Lasley Jr and Daniel Lasley; siblings: Deanna (Dan) Lasley, Senora Lasley-Thompson, Shannon Lasley-Rudolph, Oris Lasley Sr, Gilbert Lasley Sr, Jim (Jackie) Lasley and Karrie (Robert Sr) Lasley-McClain; 29 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents: Jimmie Lasley and Delores Lasley; daughter-in-law: Billie Jean Lasley; grandparents: Gilbert & Senora Lasley and Carrie & Earl Downfeather.

A wake will begin at 1 PM on Friday, January 30, 2026 at the Old Red Lake Center and will continue until the service at 1 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026 with Pastor David Anderson. Active Pallbearers will be Miciah Roberts, Austin May, Andrew May, Rob McClain Jr, Oris Lasley Jr, Cameron Lasley, Brian Brun Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Deanna Lasley, Senora Thompson, Shannon Rudolph, Oris Lasley Sr, Gilbert Lasley, Jim Lasley, Karrie Lasley-McClain, Pat Defoe, Rusty Nelson, Russell Smith, Mike Beaulieu, Robert McClain Sr, Tony Infante, Arnold Pemberton, Sam Roy. Burial will be at Family Burial Grounds in Red Lake, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
