Delmer Rogers Obituary

Delmer Ray Rogers, 82, passed away May 6, 2020 in Holyoke, Minnesota.

Delmer was born July 28,1937 in Waltersville, Kentucky to Hezzie and Thelma (Townsend) Rogers. He was raised on a small, family tobacco farm with his siblings, Shirley and Betty. The family moved to Indiana and eventually settled in East Bethel, Minnesota where they continued their love of farming.

Once, out of school, Delmer worked for local farmers for some time. He also worked at the Arsenal, the Twin Cities ammunition plant.  He eventually invested in property to start his own successful sod business, Del Rogers Sod, where he raised his children, Dennis, Timothy, Jeffrey, Melanie and Jeremy. They all participated in their family farm.

Delmer loved hunting, fishing, hare scrambles, dancing, karaoke and was most inventive with repairs around the farm and was very mechanically inclined. In later years, he wintered in Weslaco, Texas with Barbara Bush.

Delmer is survived by his special friend, Barbara Bush; children Dennis (Janette) Rogers of New Richmond, Wisconsin; Timothy Rogers of Holyoke, Minnesota; Jeffrey Rogers of Milaca, Minnesota; Melanie Rogers (Travis Strand) of Donnelly, Minnesota; and Jeremy (Linda) Rogers of Mora, Minnesota.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Danielle Rogers (Brandon Stockdill), Allison Rogers, Dawson Rogers, Aylisa Rogers, Derrick Diethelm and Alaina Rogers and great grandchild Payton Rogers Stockdill. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Backus and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Hezzie and Thelma Rogers, brother and sister-in-law, Shirley and Bertha Rogers and brother- in-law Bruce Backus.

Delmer was loved and will be missed by many. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life at a later date. Arrangements by Whispering Winds Funeral & Cremation Service serving northern Minnesota.
