Diane Graves Obituary

Diane Gail Graves, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji.

Diane was born on July 24, 1944, in Red Lake, MN to Mamie (Gurneau) and Chester Morrison. She worked at the Jourdain / Perpich Center in the activities department, then at St. Mary’s School store. She enjoyed reading magazines and books, watching YouTube and her favorite native dancer. She liked going for rides to the casino with her significant other, Donald. She also enjoyed the company of family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved thrifting and looked forward to going to eat at her favorite restaurant, Texas Roadhouse with her daughter, Karen.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Donald “Buckwheat” H. Graves Sr.; son, Luke P. Graves; daughter, Karen Roy (Graves); special daughter, Cassidy (Phil) Graves; grandchildren: Lacy Graves, Chelsey Graves (Kevin), Sherrel Graves, Blane Graves; great grandchildren: Kyleigh, Terrell, N’Kon, Amber, Adam, Tallah, Cynthia, Tallie, Tia, Gunther, Sayler, Fhyer, Nykiah, Tylese, Tylar, Izaylia, Saige, Mireya, Robert, Jersey, Lexus, Kendal; great-great grandchildren: Satala and Jasiah; sisters: Rhonda Morrison and Marlys Morrison; special niece, Misty (May) Smith and her children; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Mamie Morrison; son, Donald Graves Jr.; special grandson, Tyler Graves; great grandson: Evan Iceman; great granddaughter Zhaawin Graves; sisters: June May Morrison and Eileen Morrison; brothers: Gary Morrison, Greg Morrison, Joe Morrison; and many other relatives.

The wake will begin at 2PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the New Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 1PM on Thursday, November 14, 2024, with Father John Christianson officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Derek Smith, Robin May, Rowdy May, Kevin Roban, Blane Graves, Michael Defoe Jr., Terrell Defoe, John Lussier, Gary Lussier, Greg Barrett. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kristen Hart, Barb Bedeau, Cheri Goodwin, Renee Fairbanks, Mary Sundahl, Doreen Rainey, Sue Antone, Debbie Auginash, Bobby Jo Beaulieu, Christina “Tina” Gibbs. Diane will be buried next to her boys at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
