Dion J. Thunder

Dion Joseph Thunder, age 27, began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, March 10, 2025 in Bemidji, MN.

Dion was born on January 3, 1998 to David Cook Sr and Jami Thunder in Bemidji, MN. Dion was raised by his great-grandparents, Joseph and Bernadine Thunder, in Redby, MN. He was educated in Red Lake and then moved to Bemidji for three years with his mom. He recently moved three months ago with his cousin/sister, Keno. Dion enjoyed spending time with the bros, nephews and his family, especially his Fav. Keno. He loved being on his phone facebooking – sending MeMe – always had one for everyone and everything. He liked watching the bros play softball – Nelk boys/C’s Team. He was always laughing and smiling – loved to joke around and have fun with everyone. Dion worked for Seven Clans Casino and Savita REM Company. He enjoyed working and doing his job.

Dion is survived by his mother: Jami (Gary) Thunder; father: David (Renae) Cook Sr; grandparents: Roger Strong and Muriel (John) McGraw; siblings: Darion (Eileen) Cobenais, Chase (Shawnda) Cobenais, Aislee Cobenais, Daylen Cobenais, CeAnn (Jaycee) Thunder, David “Baby Dave” Cook Jr, Justin Cook, Dominic (Jada) Cook, John Henry Barrett, Lacy Sayers and Macy (Chandler) Sayers; uncles: Dylan Strong, Doug Cook and Fabian “Nickel” Cook; aunts: Tashia Strong, Mallori Brun, Danielle Nelson, Joelyn Hart and Mary Ellen Cook; nephews: Chase “June” Cobenais Jr, Cuyzer Cobenais and Caius Cobenais.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Barb Cook and Doug Cloud; great-grandparents: Bernadine & Joseph; uncle: Sheldon Cook Sr; aunt: Shannon Cook; nieces: KaeliAnne & Vanellope Cobenais; special brothers: Al Lussier and Cody Loud; and special cousins: Mikey “20 G’z” McNeal and Jerrell James Cook.

A wake will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at the Redby Community Center in Redby and continue until the service at 1 PM on Friday, March 21, 2025. Active Casketbearers will be Michael “Bubz”, Brent “BC”, James “Norris”, Dallas “P”, Bruce Johnson, Chase “Goom”, Darion Cobenais, Trent Cook, Hunter Beaulieu and Lydell Cook. Honorary Casketbearers will be Lilah Sayers, Val Clark, Keno, Tiffany Kingbird, Charie, Shawnda, Eileen, Ched, Matt T, Jaycee, Mona, Dana, Rasharone, Cole Cobenais, Adam Johnson, Clayton Lincoln, Tonnah, Selam Spears, and C’s/Nelk Boyz Softball Team. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake, MN.  Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
