Donald Jay Burris Jr “Dee Jay”, Jiibiyens “little ghost”, age 48, of the Bear Clan, journeyed to the Spirit World on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from mom’s house in Battle River. He was born on July 16, 1976 in Cass Lake, MN, the son of Lorna Roybal and Donald Jay Burris Sr.
Dee Jay loved to BBQ all year round; if it was the middle of winter, he’d still pull out the grill. Fishing was this man’s passion! In the summer, he would take the boat out; in the winter, he would put up the houses on the lake. He was so passionate about fishing, he started and ran a trout guiding service, teaching others all about fishing. There were so many things Dee Jay loved. Another thing he loved to do was watching sports, all varieties, but basketball was his favorite. His favorite player was Michael Jordan and he was always rocking Jordan! Another hobby of his was shining. One time he was sleeping during hunting, in a rainstorm, and they came across a deer stand in the open of the woods. Dee Jay woke instantly, whipped out the rifle right across his brother, and shot the deer.
Those greeting Dee Jay in the Spirit World are his dad, Donald Burris Sr; paternal grandmother Dora Raisch; paternal grandfather Woodrow Burris; maternal grandmother Leona Fineday; maternal grandfather Jose Roybal; uncles Mike Burris, Burton Fineday, Duane Fineday Sr; aunties Sharon Fineday and Cherlene Jenkins; cousins Adrian and Randy Burris; and significant other Heidi Tonce.
Those that Dee Jay leaves behind to cherish his memory are his mother Lorna Roybal and Special Dad Alan Kiehne; sons Deion (Ryshayna) Burris, Amodio Burris and Sutton Burris; daughters Payton Burris, Kenyon Burris, Soren Burris, Kassie Zanter; brothers Michael Burris and Mitch Kiehne; sisters Amanda Baker, Waaban Jones, Gabriel Bellanger, Randi Jones and Natalie Kiehne; uncles Joe Burris and Bob Roybal; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A wake will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club and continue until the service at 12 on Friday, October 25, 2024 with Spiritual Leader Michael Dunkley Jr. Helping lay to rest Donald are Mikey Burris, Virgil Lewis, Timothy Terry, Justin Desjarlait, Mitch Kiehne and Carl Fairbanks.
