Dorothy Waterhouse Obituary

Dorothy Mai “Dot” (Cole) Waterhouse, 85, of Remer, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2021, with family by her side, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dorothy was born December 28, 1935 in Nashville, TN to Willie Mai (Campbell) and Earl Cole. She grew up in Nashville, graduated from Hume Fog High School, and then attended beauty school. She met the love of her life, Charles Waterhouse, in Springfield TN at a dance. Dancing and roller-skate dancing were some of their favorite times together. They were blessed with three sons – Mark, Dan and Chuck.

Dot and Chuck moved from Tennessee to Minnesota where they lived in Forest Lake, Duluth and Remer. Through the years, Dot worked as a beautician, proofreader for Methodist Publishing House in Nashville (where she proofread the King James version of the Bible), Halverson Trees in Duluth, and Target in Duluth and Minneapolis. Many summers were spent at a cabin on Thunder Lake in Remer, and in 1988, they built a beautiful home on Upper Trelipe Lake in Remer. For 30 years, they wintered in Florida, eventually purchasing a second home in St.Cloud FL. They were members of Salem Lutheran Church in Remer where Dot worked with children at Bible School, and also members of the YAH (Young at Heart) Club for Senior Citizens.

Dot was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family meant everything to her. With her husband “Bud” (as she called him), Dot enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren. They were always welcomed with open arms, often playing cards and games well into the night. She loved crafting and participated in many craft shows. She enjoyed cooking and baking and made a great buttermilk pie.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother Willie Mai Naïve, stepfather Phil Naïve, father Earl Cole, son Mark Waterhouse, 5 brothers-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law.  Dot will be greatly missed by her husband Charles Waterhouse; sons Daniel (Cathy) and Chuck (Jackie); daughter-in-law Rebecca; brother Cecil “Eddie”/Bubba (Jeannie) Cole; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her dogs Raven and Izzy.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 10:00am at the Community Church of Longville with Pastor Duane Brown officiating.  Burial will be in the Longville City Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Patrick’s in Longville beginning at 11:00am.  The family would like to extend a special heart-felt thank you to Angie Robbins, Gail Ford, Bonita Wilkenson, and Kim Bielke for their loving care and dedication to Dot. In lieu of flowers, Dot wishes contributions to be made to Alzheimer’s research (alz.org)
