Edward Theobald

It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the passing of Edward Theobald, Makade Migizi Inini “Black Eagle”, of the Bear Clan, who walked on to the spirit world on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 59.

Edward was born on October 29, 1966, in Red Lake, MN and adopted by Thomas and Joyce (Lathem) Theobald. Edward was proud of Anishinaabe heritage, embodied the warrior spirit of his ancestors, characterized by courage, humility, and a dedication to his community.

Throughout his life, Edward was a pillar of strength, culture bearer, elder, and community leader who worked tirelessly to preserve our language, customs, and connection to the land. His quiet wisdom and sharp humor always brought joy and unity to those around him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and resilience that will be carried forward by the seventh generation. "Walking in the footsteps of our ancestors," Edward taught us all the true meaning of walking with a good heart and protecting our ways.

Above all, Edward was a devoted family man. He is survived by his siblings: Mary Corn, Sara Anderson, Jennifer Froegel, Mike Theobald, John Theobald; aunt, Nancy Polonia; special cousin, Earline May; as well at other relatives and friends.

Those greeting him in the spirit world are his parents: Thomas and Joyce Theobald; birth mother, Margaret Neadeau; siblings: Dale and Lisa Neadeau; aunts and uncles: Earl Parkhurst, Daniel Parkhurst, Pete Parkhurst, Rosetta Jourdain, Sally May, Belva Smallwood, Andrew Neadeau Jr.

A traditional wake will begin at 11AM on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the New Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 10AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service.
