Eugene D. Johnson

Eugene D. Johnson Jr. “Sonny” age 68, passed away on May 31, 2023, at 5:25 AM at the Red Lake Hospital.  He was born July 9, 1954, to Eugene Sr. and Betty Johnson.  Sonny worked for the Red Lake Courts for many years as a Lay Advocate and Attorney.    He will be remembered by his wife of 34 years Charlene; daughter Jerilyn Smith; stepchildren Karin Lynette “Sissy”, Kristine (Fred) King Jr.; sisters Donna, Chele, and Vicki Johnson; brothers Dan and Richard Johnson; grandchildren, Sonny and Charlene raised Kara, Cyrus and Hunter King, Other grandchildren include Gerry, Karissa and Kameron King, Curtis May; great grandchildren Adam Jr., Damon and Charlize White, Forrest Jr. Marques and Kendrick King, Jayde King.   Eugene was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Sr. and Betty Johnson, sisters Gail Mills, Lulu Johnson, brothers Mitchell and Stuart Johnson, Nephew Brandon Johnson, Special Grandson Hunter King and Forrest King Sr.   Great granddaughters Emma King and Gishelle Stately.  Several Nieces and Nephews.   

Honorary Pallbearers for Sonny will be Theresa Anderson, LaVonne Vasend, Emily Parkhurst-Johnson, Irene McGraw, Donalda Desjarlait, Michelle Cobenais, Carolyn Beaulieu, Joe Plumer, Lynette “Sissy”, Karin King, Kara King, Karissa King, Trina (Lone) Fairbanks, Barb Pemberton, Kelly Greengrass, and all his friends from the Red Lake Courts. 

The pallbearers will be Dan Johnson, Richard Johnson, Mott Parkhurst, Gerry King, Cyrus King, Duane Fairbanks, Alternative Adam White Sr. and Curtis May. 

A wake for Sonny will begin Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the New Red Lake Center and continue until the funeral service on Monday, June 5, at 1:00 PM. Fr. John Christianson will be officiating.   Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Red Lake, Minnesota. 

Arrangements are by Whispering Pines Funeral and Cremation Service, Walker, Minnesota.
