Frank “Joe” Ambrose Gurno Jr, age 62, of the Makwa Clan of Red Lake, MN, began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in Olivia, MN.
Frank was born on September 18, 1962, to Ellen (Norcross) and Frank Gurno Sr of Red Lake. Frank was raised in BOT of Red Lake and graduated from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Jobs Corps Campus. He worked with Red Lake Housing, Red Lake Builders. He enjoyed setting nets, hunting, fishing and playing cribbage. Frank enjoyed trips to the casino, taking rides, Pow wow trails and spending time with his family and friends including all his grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons Brian Brown, Frank Gurno Sr, Morris Benais, Myron Benais and Daniel White Sr, all of Red Lake; daughters: Lisa White, Alicia Gurno, Sharyza Schoenborn and Kelicia Schoenborn all of Red Lake as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Frank was preceded in death by: his parents: Frank and Ellen Gurno Sr; brother, Frankin Gurno of Red Lake; sisters: Cheryl Gurno and Barbara Gurno; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A traditional wake will begin at 2pm on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the New Red Lake Center and continue until the service at 10am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Active pallbearers will be: Kenny Hanson, James Lussier, Roger Green, Johnny Green, Jonathan Gurno, Joshua Needham Sr, Jeremy Hill, Jeremy So with alternates: Dan So and Clint Donnell. Honorary pallbearers will be: Curtis Jourdain, Bill Thunder, Pat Brun, Marilyn Littlecreek, Marlys King, Derek Oliver, Doug Jourdain, John Jourdain, and alternates: Karen McNeal and Gordon Thompson. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service.
