Garrick Edward Lawrence Jr.

Garrick Edward Lawrence Jr, “Zhigaagoons” (Little Skunk) of the Bear Clan, age 21, of Red Lake, Minnesota, journeyed to the spirit world on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his home in Bemidji, MN.

Garrick was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 7, 2000, to Carmen Strong and Garrick Lawrence, Sr. He grew up and attended school in Red Lake and Bemidji.

Garrick was known for his beautiful contagious smile, his respect for life, his great sense of humor and his character of being a prankster.  He cherished his family and friends and was loyal to anyone whom he considered family. He was always offering to help anyone in need; even with his limited ability get around, he was there for all who asked for his help. Garrick loved his sisters and little brother tremendously and would do anything for them. He loved playing his games, visiting with family and friends, hanging out with his cousins, riding around, and being home with his siblings. The family is at peace knowing he is with other loved ones who passed before him.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his mother Carmen (Derek) Strong; father Garrick Lawrence, Sr.; sisters Arianne and Aaliyah Strong; Lil brother Aries Strong; grandmother Evelyn Red Eagle; grandpa Richard Gitch Clark; step-grandparents Peter and Mary Strong; significant other Angelina Raincloud; and numerous family members and friends.

Family that Garrick joins in the spirit world are his great-grandparents Sam and Gertrude Red Eagle; grandparents Gerard and Gwendolyn Lawrence; special grandmother Almeda Strong; special aunt Winona Dudley; uncles Anthony Chosa and Brian Lawrence; cousin Kohlin Fohrenkamp-DifferentHorse;  infant twin brothers; and many family who passed before him.

An overnight wake for Garrick will begin Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 4:00pm at the Red Lake Community Center, Red Lake, MN, and will continue until his service on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 11:00am. Arnold Kingbird will serve as Spiritual Leader. Casketbearers will be Mike Roberts, Tristan Lawrence, Jason Lawrence Jr., JR Goodleft, Terrance Whitefeather, Alvin Johnson III, Devin Clark, Terrell Whitefeather, Jaden Red Eagle, Derek Strong, Matt Lawrence, Josh Cloud,  Honorary casketbearers will be Arianne Strong, Jenny Jones, Jazmine Auginash, Samantha Jones, Arlene Red Eagle, Julie Red Eagle, Angelina Raincloud, Sandra Red Eagle, Samantha Red Eagle, Paula Lawrence, Evelyn Red Eagle, Gus Red Eagle, Michael Whitefeather Jr., Jason Lawrence Sr., Curtis Fohrenkamp, Daisha Ravensborg, and many more family and friends. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Red Lake, Minnesota.
