George Benais

George Henry Benais, age 54, of Red Lake MN, journeyed to the Spirit World unexpectedly on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Red Lake IHS.  George was born in Red Lake to James and Dorothy (Weise) Benais.

George liked to go for rides/walks along the lake. He was always joking around with Kylene and enjoyed going to the casino and playing Keno. He was an outdoorsman, mechanic and loved spending time with his family. George graduated from Northwest Technical College for Carpentry and also graduated from Bemidji State University. George worked for years at Red Lake Casino, as well as logging for Red Lake and at Red Lake Fisheries. He raised his grandson, Robbie, from the time he was born to his passing.

George was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother James Benais; sisters Irene Benais, Alberta Benais; step-daughter Ariana Butcher and niece Melanie Benais.

George is survived by his very special friend Kylene White of Red Lake; daughters Lauren Benais and Sherrill (Robert Jr) Stillday of Red Lake and Keisha Brusewitz of Bemidji; step-children Brent and Amber Cloud of Bemidji, Vinson Jr, Vivihanna and ViviAnne Wilson, all of Duluth; sisters Deborah (Louie) Hegstrom of Red Lake and Agnes Benais of Bemidji MN; grandkids Robert Rushman III, Delilah Benais, Steven Bedeau Jr, James Bedeau, Stephanie Bedeau, Robert Kingbird Jr, Carter Kingbird, Aniyah Lussier, Amelia Lussier, Grayson Cloud, Karson Cloud and Neveah Cloud; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The wake will begin at noon on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Little Rock Community Center and continue until the service on Friday, May 26, 2023.  Active Pallbearers will be Gerald May Sr, Gerald May Jr, Oscar Spears, Robert Rushman Jr, Lyle Benais, Llewellyn Benais, Dylan Benais, Brent Cloud, Julian Benais, Evan Redeagle, Jerricho Redeagle, William “B” Sayers, Robert Rushman III. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lauren Benais, Kendra Cloud, Lucinda Ryan Sherrill Stillday, Lorene Lyons, Darcey Lyons and Kylene White. Burial will be at the Benais Family Burial Grounds in Big Stone.  Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker and Hackensack, Minnesota.
