Irene Elaine Fehn, 81, of Laporte MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 1, 2025, at Caring Hearts Senior Community in Pequot Lakes, MN.
She was born on June 12, 1943, to Harold and Laura (Marquette) Spike. Irene grew up on the family farm in Buffalo and graduated from Buffalo high school. After high school she worked at the bank before meeting her husband on a blind date. Irene married Lee Fehn on February 23, 1963, at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo. A few years later, they moved to French Lake, near Annandale, where they raised their six children. In 1998 they made their final move to Laporte, MN.
Irene was a kind, loving mother of 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She loved working in her gardens and for many years she worked at Rhode’s Garden Center, helping out in the spring. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, which led to her final career as a chef. She worked at Koinonia Retreat Center and Country Meadows before retiring in 1997.
Irene is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Theresa) Fehn, Randall (Sandra) Fehn, Angela (Paul) Sandelin, Pamela Fehn (Ray), 19 grandchildren, Jennifer Leopold, Amanda Trahan, Kaleb, Brady, Jonah & Ava Fehn, Zachary, Benjamin and Felicia Fehn, Amber, Cole and Mindy Howard, Erik and Britta Sandelin, Destiny Lee and Morgan Och, Gabrielle, Annabelle and Joshua Nelson. Daughter-In Law Jeanne Fehn, son-in-law Ken Nelson and her brothers and sisters.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Lee Fehn, her parents Harold & Laura Spike, children Colin Fehn and Katrina Nelson and siblings Myron Spike, Paul Spike and Michelle Sorenson.
Services will be held at St Theodores Catholic Church in Laporte, MN on Saturday March 15th at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Kaleb Fehn, Brady Fehn, Jonah Fehn, Benjamin Fehn, Cole Howard, Erik Sandelin and Morgan Och, honorary pall bearers are Zachary Fehn and Johsua Nelson. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Hackensack and Walker.
