James Dean Miller, age 93, passed away at the hospital on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 in Monticello, Minnesota. James was born on June 10, 1930 in Monticello, Minnesota to John and Blanche (Garvey) Miller.
James grew up in Monticello and graduated from Monticello High School in 1948. He then entered the Army that same year. After he was discharged from the Army, he worked in Alaska and was later recalled to the Army for the Korean War. James moved to California in 1956 and became a California Highway Patrol Officer in 1957 until his retirement in 1985. In 1980, James married Lois Schoepf in Monticello, Minnesota. They moved back to Monticello after his retirement, during which they spent time traveling and motorcycle riding. He was active in the American Legion and loved spending his winters in Texas.
James is survived by his brothers Jay Miller of Phoenix, AZ; sisters Phyllis Johnson of Monticello, MN and Carol (Doug) Pitt of Walker, MN; 12 nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Blanche; spouse Lois; sister Marvel Trunnell; and brother Wally Miller.
A service with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at American Legion Post 260 at 304 Elm St in Monticello, Minnesota.
