James Morgan Obituary

It is with sad tidings we report James Robert Morgan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 11, 2024.

He was born on September 26th, 1949, to Robert Morgan and Mary (James) Morgan in Minneapolis, MN.  He enlisted and served proudly in the Army from 1968 to 1976.  Jim completed basic training in Fort Benning, GA then AIT Pershing Missile School in Redstone Arsenal.  On completion of training, he received orders to Germany for a three year tour.   He returned to Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville, AL.  As in everything in life he excelled in the Pershing Missile program and finished his career as an instructor in the Pershing Missile MOS. Jim has had a successful career in several fields.  He moved to Wisconsin upon completion of his Army Career to work for Beaver of Wisconsin in Stevens Point.   Ultimately, he relocated back to Minneapolis, MN to work for FMC involving instrumentation and industrial controls.  Once completing that job, he transferred to J & W Instruments.  In 1993 Jim and Marie purchased the Wharf in Walker MN which they owned for 16 years.  Jim was famous for his Giant Heated Tacos, Buffalo wings and Chicken Chow Mein.  After He and Marie sold the Wharf, Jim began employment for Covanta Energy where he worked in the Minneapolis plant.  He was promoted to Eastern Regional Manager and had the privilege of managing a wide array of facilities in many cities throughout the region until his retirement from Covanta in 2018.  Jim’s dedication and work ethic prompted him to work further and so he began test driving cars for PDW out of Detroit until January 2024.

Jim was a special individual and was very devoted to his loved ones.  He enjoyed people and socializing with everyone from all walks of life.  He had a special gift that enabled him to connect with anyone.  Jim was well loved everywhere he went.  He never forgot a face and people always loved and remembered him in all of the places he worked and traveled including his beloved yearly trip to New Orleans.  Family was most important to him and he would give the shirt from his back to help all in need.   He was a member of the Laporte American Legion and a life time member of the VFW.
