James “Marvin” White, Makade Makwa “Black Bear”, Turtle Clan, age 60, travelled to the spirit world on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in Cass Lake, MN.
James was born on September 12, 1963, in Cass Lake, MN to Richard and Christina (Critt) White. He received his GED and went on to attend Northeast Metro Technical College. Marvin was gifted with his hands and was a skilled pipe maker. He enjoyed being out in nature, harvesting wild rice, fishing and passing on his knowledge and cultural teachings to younger generations. He will be remembered as a kind, wise, and gentle man.
He will be lovingly remembered by: his children: Renee King and David King; grandchildren: Desiree and Jessica King; step-daughter, Lila (Anthony Tejohn) Salas; siblings: Becky (Tom) White-Gregory; Calvin White, Margaret (Alfrod) White-Brown, Fred White, Joe (Connie Whitebird) Wilson, Benjamin (Rachel Premo) White, Delia (Joseph Ducheneaux) White; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Those greeting him in the spirit world are: his parents; siblings: Alvin White and Joleen Wilson; son, Daniel Jones; special friends: Patty Washington and Carol Jones; niece, JoDee Ducheneaux.
A traditional wake will begin at 5PM on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the Mission Community Center near Cass Lake and continue until the service at 10AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with Fred Desjarlait as spiritual leader. Active pallbearers will be: Wallace “Waawaate” Saice, Vincent Morris, Daniel “Sun” Barrientez, Willy Urrutia, Tony Goze, Dallas Kingbird, Robert Jaspers and Owen Ducheneaux. Honorary pallbearers will be close family, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters. Burial will be at Mission Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
