Janelle Ann Sonstegard

Janelle Sonstegard, 69, of Longville, MN, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, surrounded by family.

Janelle was born December 22, 1952, to Donald and Sible Carlson. She grew up in Longville and graduated from Northland High School in 1970. On April 3, 1971, she married Jack Sonstegard. Janelle is known by many for the 51 years she worked at Longville Bait, where she could be found counting minnows, leeches, or night crawlers for different people or families. Another thing she could be found doing there was showing kids the different critters, such as tadpoles or crawfish, or giving out fishing reports of the different lakes around Longville to anyone who asked. Any time you walked into the bait shop, Janelle was guaranteed to greet you with a hello and a smile. Her love of kids didn’t stop there. For many years she served as the coach for the Longville Green Little League team.

In her free time, Janelle enjoyed fishing herself, going to music bingo, playing darts in the wintertime, and watching one of the Minnesota sports teams whether it was college or pro.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Janelle is preceded in death by her husband, grandson and parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 2pm-4pm at Patrick’s Fine Dining in Longville. Arrangements are provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker and Hackensack, Minnesota.
