Janina Croud Obituary

Janina Marie Croud “Waasaagamaakwe”, began her journey on October 30, 2024, at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, MN, after a 4-year battle with an auto immune disease with her family by her side. She faced incredible struggles during her life, but always continued to show strength and incredible resilience to continue fighting for her family, especially her first grandchild, Violet Jones.

She was born June 27, 1974, in Park Rapids, MN, and was a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe. Janina enjoyed music, spending time with family and friends, pow-wows, walking along the shore of Lake Superior, playing cards, and cooking for her loved ones; wild rice hotdish and fry bread were her favorites. She also enjoyed beading, knitting, and doing artwork.

She leaves behind her older brother, James Croud, daughter, Sheree Croud, her only grandchild, Violet Jones, nephews, Daniel Buckanaga, Justin Buckanaga-Croud, Kaden Croud Sr, niece Koral Croud, many other relatives, and her dear friend and mentor, Kathleen Westcott.

She is welcomed into the spirit world by her grandmother, Maggie Croud, mother, Sylvia Croud, younger brother, David Croud Sr, aunts, Sara Clark, Bernice “Bunny” Croud, Cathy Adams, uncle Joseph Croud, and many other relatives.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Lukes Hospital, for the care she received, and a special thanks to Dr. Lorraine Turner. Also, a special thanks for Edie Smith, Joann Annette, and Betty Robbins for all of their help and support, and to Will Annette, John Annette, Anthony Annette, and all those that kept the fire.
