Joseph “Joey” Fairbanks, Jr., age 27 ,“Red Thunder Bird”, of Red Lake, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Red Lake Hospital. He was born on May 6, 1995 in Bemidji to Nicole Johns and Joseph Fairbanks, Sr.
He graduated in 2013 from Trek North High School in Bemidji. He loved to work on cars, trucks, ATVs, anything with a motor. He liked to fish, hunt, and go on family trips. When he was a kid, he like to take apart electronics and put them back together again. He liked keno and scratch off tickets. He was the first student at Trek that was set up with a job first at Tires Plus his junior year then his senior year at the car wash that was close to Trek. As a kid, he enjoyed going to the car races with his dad and family. He was very friendly, polite, and respectful. His family and friends meant so much to him and he would always be quick to lend a helping hand no matter the task. He loved family cookouts and family gatherings and was always a joy to be around. He was an outdoor person and enjoyed all seasons, winter time he would be out on snowmobile with his kids and summer time would try his hardest to be out on the lake on something. He is going to be extremely missed by his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving parents Nicole Johns and Joseph Fairbanks, Sr. His longtime girlfriend: Daisey Mondragon, and his kids who meant the world and then some to him daughter Kendal Fairbanks, Sons: Joseph Fairbanks, III and Jace May. His siblings - sisters: Alecia Fairbanks, Alli Fairbanks, Nariah White and Brother Cameron Fairbanks; his Godmother and aunt, Michelle Johns, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to cherish the memories he made throughout his life.
Joey joins his maternal grandparents: Joseph and Mary “Fady” Johns and Charles “Chubby” Johns, paternal grandparents: Roy Beaulieu and Barbara Fairbanks, sister Georgie Kai Houle, Uncle (godfather) Mike Johns, Aunt Carla Brun, Rhonda Fairbanks, cousins that were like a brother to him: Todd Johns, Sr. and Brian Bradley, cousin, Marilee Brun, and many more family and friends too many to list/name.
A wake for Joey will start Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Noon at the New Red Lake Center and continue until the service at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, June 6, 2022, with Father John Christianson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake. Active pallbearers will be: Clayton Cook, Jr., Timothy Preston, Robbie Cook, Jr., Aaron Fairbanks, Brian Fairbanks, OJ Spears with Alternates Brandon Fairbanks and Brandon Neadeau. Honorary pallbearers are George Graves, Reggie Wind, Sr., Francis Brun, Jr., Bruce Johns, Todd Johns, Jr., Dyllon Johns, Carl Fairbanks, Jr., Frank Johns, Brett Brun, Zack Johns, Derick Smith, Joe Fairbanks, Gordy Fairbanks, Mallori Brun, Leo Cook, Franklin Skinaway, Bryan “Pun” Sumner and Lindsay Johns.
