Kari Toney Obituary

Kari “My Sweetie” Nevaeh Toney was born to Colette “Mimi” Dawn Bugg and Kareem Abdul Toney of Illinois. She was an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Her Indian name, Giiwedinookwe (North Wind Woman), was lovingly given to her by Fred Desjarlait, Waasamooginini, of Red Lake Nation. Kari grew up in Hinckley, Minnesota, surrounded by her family and community. She was lovingly raised by her dad, Re’chard “FooFoo” Morgan Bridges, who always called her “My Sweetie.”  Kari’s warmth, humor, and caring nature touched everyone who knew her – she was the kind of friend you could count on, always thoughtful and full of laughter. A bright and motivated young woman, Kari was currently attending Pine Technical and Community College for her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification and was preparing to continue her education the following semester to become a Registered Nurse. Her passion for helping others reflected her generous heart and her deep sense of responsibility to care for those around her.

Kari began her spiritual journey on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those whose lives she brightened.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Colette “Mimi” Dawn Bugg; uncle Clayton “CJ” Bugg Jr.; great-grandparents Charles Bugg Jr. and Geraldine Bugg; great-uncle Shawn Bugg Sr.’ auntie Rose Kingbird; great-grandparents Theresa “Mattie” Dunkley and James Dunkley; great-uncles Ingo Skjefte Sr. and Sam Albert Dunkley; great-aunties Debra Dunkley, Sandra Sayers, Melvina Bugg, Annabelle Hicks and Patricia Eylandt, great-uncle Terrance Zack Bugg.
