Karyn Lea (Fineday) Wind, Miizhakiins "When grass looks like waves", Thunderbird Clan, age 74, began her journey to the spirit world on Sunday, September 14, 2025 in Bemidji, MN.
Karyn was born on June 9, 1951 to Robert E. Fox and Agness Fineday in Cass Lake, MN. She and Donald J. Wind Sr. were married on September 2, 1989, but had been in love and together for 60 years. Karyn enjoyed trips to the casino to play Bingo and try her luck on the slots, travelling to powwows, sewing and rummaging. Karyn looked forward to visiting with friends and family. She especially loved hosting holiday meals at her home, surrounded by the love and laughter of her family. Karyn enjoyed attending traditional ceremonies and above all, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karyn is survived by her children: Sheila (Fineday) Lyons, Darlene Wind, Cheryl Secola; grandchildren: Lisa Fineday-Fisher, Melissa (Eli) Raisch, Darress (Daisy) Graves; and great-grandchildren: Amira A. White, Tori L. White, Don-Don J. Brown; and several more great-grandchildren.
Karyn greeted her beloved husband, Donald Wind Sr, just days after she began her own journey. Those greeting her were: her parents: Robert E. Fox and Agnes Fineday; son: Donald J. “Fudd” Wind Jr; special son: Codi Brown; sisters: Barb Fineday, Peggy Harris, Roberta Fox; brothers: John Fox, Patricia Jackson; granddaughters: Leigh Fineday, Adryn Kinchen-Wind; and great-grandsons King Wakonabo, Jacob Fineday-Blue.
A traditional wake will begin at 5 PM on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Cass Lake All-Veteran’s Memorial Building and will continue until the service at 10 AM on Monday, September 22, 2025 with Spiritual Leader Mike Dahl. Active Pallbearers will be Anthony Kinchen Jr, Silas Blue III, Charles “Tubby” Fisher, Eli Raisch, KJ Farrow, Caleb Olson, Edward Fisher Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carol Charnoski, Marilyn Wind, Diane Fineday, Aleigha Fineday, Sandra Littlewolf, Sharon Northbird, Juanita Fineday, Carol H., Rowan White, Melvin Goodman, Darlene Wind (sister), Glen “Tuffy” Fisher, Jackie Charwood, Gordon Fineday, Robert “Rob” Fineday. Burial will be at Porcupine Lane Cemetery in Cass Lake (Mission), MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
