Kerry Edward Benton

Kerry Edward Benton, “Azhingogizhigud Akiwenzii,” age 54, of Red Lake, Minnesota, journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, May 8, 2023 in Wisconsin. Kerry was born on August 31, 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Gordon Neadeau and Marilyn Benton.

Kerry lived his first 10 years in Minneapolis, then moved to Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, Wisconsin before moving to St Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from the Red School House and went to college in Durango, Colorado. He met and married Michelle Antonio and they lived in New Mexico for several years. Kerry sang at Pow-wows and spiritual gatherings and always said prayers for all the family members at special dinners. He loved his children and family and always had a Big Bear Hug and Wise Words of Wisdom for you. Kerry worked as a Social Worker for Human Services.

Kerry is survived by daughters Shanelle Benton and Nancy Beaulieu; son Gordon Benton; grandchildren Alyzah Cheromiah, Skyler Rascon, Francisco Rascon, Ignacio Rascon and Jaidyn Antonio; sister Tara Neadeau and Special sister Connie Hill (Geo Baily); Special Bro Henry (Hank) Hill Sr (Kelly); Special Aunts Irma Beaulieu and Bonnie Smith; Special Uncles Terry Neadeau Sr, Clyde Neadeau and Elwyn Neadeau; nieces Leveyah Bedeau, Lorene Auginash, Nicole Auginash and Tia Neadeau; nephews Ambrose Graves (Burt), Two Bears Wade Bedeau, Dylan Lavave, Kodiak Jourdain, Chris Knudsen, Talon Neadeau and Cody Greene; great-nieces Niani Almaguer, Jermya Foy and Layla Foy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Michelle Benton; parents Gordon Neadeau and Marilyn Benton; grandparents Henry Neadeau, Edith Kelly, Eddie Benton Banai and Mildred Isham; brothers Burton Benton, Loren Siegel, “Hoks” Terene Neadeau Jr, Geronomoe Wade; Sisters Allison Benton, Cindy Wade and Lori Siegel.

The wake will begin at 6:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Old Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 15, 2023 with Spiritual Leader Zac Earley.  Pallbearers will be Bay Quaderer, Terry Barber, Talon Neadeau, Chris Knudsen, Keith Neadeau Jr, Randy Norris and James Norris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Sumner, Lee Neadeau Sr, Claude Neadeau Jr, Brandon Neadeau Sr, Kit Morgan, Henry Hill Sr, Lydell Neadeau and Josh Neadeau.  Burial will be Monday, May 15, 2023 at St Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake, Minnesota.
