Leslie Eugene Showalter

Leslie Eugene Showalter was born at home in Longville Mn on November 6, 1936 to Beth (Wilbert) and Floyd (Happy) Showalter.
Leslie's younger years were spent in the Longville and Pine River areas. He was married in 1964 to Mary Ellen Baldwin.  They lived in St Paul for about 5 years, where he worked various jobs. Around 1970, they decided to move to the Pine River area to help with aging parents. and raise their children. Les worked at the Pine River Bakery, and the school as a janitor., retiring not long afterwards due to health issues. In 1982 they moved to Backus, living on Island Lake. Then in 1993 moved to Akeley. While living in Akeley he enjoyed being the Usher at the Woodtick theater which he enjoyed immensely. He also was in charge of the free exchange garage in Akeley. In about 2014, he moved to Park Rapids, then to Menahga  in about 2018.
Leslie's passion was fishing, he was a guide for years. He also liked to hunt, rice, play cards, and visit. He also loved to drive to see the area, back roads were his favorite. He was a jokester, liking to tease at any chance he'd get. He'd be more then happy to help anyone in need, no one was a stranger. Most people who meet Les liked him instantly and have fond memories of him
Leslie is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth (Ken) White of Longville.
Grandchildren Rebecca, Melissa, Troy Boone, Joshua, Brian, Jamie, Nicole, Ken Jr, Aaron, Vince, Tawny, Henry, and Tim. Many Great Grandchildren, & Great Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Happy & Beth Showalter. His brothers William (Bill), Steven (Pete) infant brother Rodney and beloved dog Stubby. Many other Nieces, nephews, cousins, family & friends.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers are Boone Turner, Joshua Turner, Sam Turner, Ken Jr White, Vince White, Henry Greyhawk.

A visitation for Leslie will be from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM funeral service Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the Akeley United Methodist Church, Akeley, Minnesota.  Arrangements are by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, Walker, Minnesota.
