Libby Gurneau Obituary

Libby Joann Gurneau, age 56, of Red Lake, Minnesota, began her journey to the spirit world on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Serenity Assisted Living in Remer, Minnesota.

Libby was born on June 11, 1967 to Rapheal John Gurneau and Mary Lou Bender in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Chicago and graduated as Valedictorian of her High School Class.  She had her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She worked as a ballots keeper and in AmeriCorps.  She liked going to the casino, traveling with her pastor and cooking (especially banana bread, fry bread and chicken dumpling soup). She loved card games, including Uno and Skip-Bo, and attending community events. She loved spending time with family and friends and loved her cats, Robert and Sylvia, Jacob’s dog, Fat Girl, and her finches!

Libby is survived by her sons Joshua and Jeremiah Hunter; 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson; brothers Louis, Rapheal and Anthony Gurneau; and sisters Ruby, Luann, Lynda, Lorene and Caroline Bassett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jacob; and brother Alan Gurneau.

The wake will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 and continue until the service at 2 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024 with Father John Christianson at the Old Red Lake Center. Active Pallbearers will be Louis Gurneau, Joshua Gurneau, Jeremiah Hunter, Jordan Gurneau, Andrew May and Vernon May Jr. Alternates are Jeffrey Thompson, Brad Blue, Dayton Carlson and Dominic McDaniel. Honorary Pallbearers are Rachel Gurneau, Cheyenne McDaniel, Lana Hunter, Tessa May, Tatum May, Lynda Gurneau, Stephanie Taylor, Hannah Gurneau, Hillary Gurneau, Ruby Gurneau, Caroline Gurneau, Rae Jean Tahawah, Lorinda Gurneau, Lorene “Gahween” and Raphael Gurneau. Burial will be next to her son, Jacob, in St Mary’s Cemetery.
