Linda Ilona Spurlin went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2022 at the age of 100 years, 9 months, and 26 days. She passed away peacefully at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, MN.
Linda was born on July 20, 1921 to Henry John and Tynne Marie Jahoula in Wuori Township, MN. She was the third of five children: Melvin Jahoula, George Jahoula, Linda Spurlin, Ester Bicknase, and Milton Jahoula. Unfortunately, early in her life, Linda entered foster care, and she and her siblings were split to be cared for. Thankfully, Linda found a home with the Dosdall family and was raised in Hancock, MN with their children George, Edward, Ted, Glenn, Henry, and Edith. Linda met her loving husband, Guy Spurlin, in Hancock, and they married on November 14, 1940, when she was 19 years old. They lived in Akeley and in Nevis, MN, where she worked side by side with her husband on the farm, and eventually in Cloquet, MN. Linda was a mother of five and cared for her children as well as many foster children over the years while her husband, Guy, worked in the timber industry.
Upon her death, Linda joins her husband Guy; three of her five children, Tim Spurlin, Faith Nelson, Barbara Mills; son-in-law Larry Niemi; and granddaughter Annette Finnila in heaven. She was also preceded in death by all of her biological and foster siblings. She is survived by her daughters Janet Oachs of Esko, MN and Phylis Neimi of Mission KS. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. We know Linda is now resting in the Lord’s arms, as she was a faithful Christian woman. Linda Ilona Jahoula Spurlin lived a long, fulfilling, and resilient life.
A funeral service for Linda will be held at the Journey Christian Church, Cloquet, MN on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet, MN.
