Lloyd Lawrence Thielmann, a proud veteran and loving family member and friend, passed away on June 2, 2026 at the age of 78. Born to Clarence and Emma Thielmann in Fergus Falls, he grew up in Crystal, raised a family in Dayton, and retired in Longville.
Lloyd had a deep passion for the outdoors as a sportsman, personal “chef” for the deer and birds, and professional observer of all things Mother Nature gifted. With that same passion, he loved sharing his knowledge and wisdom through meaningful conversations, memorable moments, and plenty of laughs. It didn’t matter whether he had known you for five seconds or five decades—there was always a topic to talk about. And, if you were lucky enough, you got to discuss how to solve the world’s problems while enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise.
Lloyd had a strong faith practiced at Salem Lutheran Church (Longville), and through his commitment to volunteering, he fulfilled his earthly work by; driving for Cass County, bringing residents to medical appointments; cutting and ironing over 20,000 quilt squares a year for the Loving Hands Quilt Club in Longville, which provides free quilts to the community, and was honored to receive one as a vet and one for his last days with us on earth; delivering food for the Longville Area Food Shelf; and as an active member, and former President, of the Blackwater Lake Association.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Terry, who he met when they were 7; his children, Teresa McClay (Chad) and Michael Thielmann (Tammy); his grandchildren, Issac and Niccole McClay; his sisters, Rhea Beaudry (Leon), Jeanne Nicka (Stan), and Mary Donnell (Joel); his brother, Dan Thielmann (Marilyn); his uncle, Wally Thielmann (Louise); numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and, of course, his pet Chihuahua, Ms. Lily Mae. Lloyd’s wish was to be cremated and have some of his ashes spread at his favorite hunting spot.
We will be holding two Celebrations of Life, one in Longville and one in the Twin Cities, at afuture date. Details will be shared through his CaringBridge website page (search “Lloyd Thielmann”). For those that wish to show their support, and would like to honour Lloyd in a tangible way, please make a donation in his name to the Longville Area Food Shelf, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization where Lloyd volunteered. Please visit longvillefoodshelf.com to learn about the various ways to donate.
