Lorraine June Sayers, age 82, began her spiritual journey on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Fairview St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN.
Lorraine was born on July 7, 1943 to Mary and Eugene Sayers in Red Lake, MN. Lorraine grew up in Red Lake, MN, and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1961. She graduated from Draughous Business College, Dallas, TX, in 1964. Lorraine began working for the Red Lake Department of Public Safety in July 1967 as an Administrative Secretary in the criminal justice system, where she would also act as a clerk of court when needed to collect bail and fines, and dedicated 48 years of service before retiring in July 2015. She served on the Red Lake Tribal Credit Board for many years. Lorraine was an avid bingo player and could play about 12 cards at a time. She liked going to the casino and loved country western music, mainly achy-breaky heart by Billy Ray Cyrus – she loved to dance to that song! She loved spending time with her brother, Aaron. Together, they watched the MN Vikings and MN Twins. She loved becoming a grandmother and was very proud of her grandkids, Ella and Braelon, always showing off pictures of them. Lorraine was also very proud of her son, Brent, from serving in the Navy to becoming a father and witnessing Brent graduating from the University of North Dakota. Lorraine also traveled to Florida to stay with Brent and his family for a brief time and enjoyed being a grandma. A special memory was made when her mother and son Brent made a road trip to Albuquerque and other states and visited Joyce Roy where she was living at the time. It happened on Joyce’s birthday when Joyce’s daughter, Julia, arranged for a surprise visit by a male exotic dancer! It was a fun and crazy event that Loraine and Mary enjoyed – pictures were taken and all had many laughs and a good time! She will be missed by all her family and friends.
Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her son: Brent (Annette) Sayers of Melbourne, FL; brother: Aaron Sayers of Red Lake; special nieces: Holly, Diamond, Lachelle and Kelsi Cloud-Sayers; special nephew: Robert Cloud Jr; special great-nieces: Lorraine and River Stands; grandchildren: Alicia Maxwell, Lyric Beaulieu, Braelon and Ella Sayers.
Those greeting her in the spirit world are her parents: Mary and Eugene Sayers; infant daughter: Beth Sayers; sisters: Gloria Skinaway, Leslie Buffalo and Cheryl “Dolly” Taylor; brothers: Eugene “Slug” Sayers, Henry “Hank” Sayers and Dennis “Kirby” Sayers.
A wake will begin at 2 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the New Red Lake Center and will continue until the service at 1 PM on Monday, November 10, 2025 with Father Salonek officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Orlando Fineday Jr., Ken Skinaway, Henry Sayers Jr., Robert Cloud Sr., Tristian Lawrence, Tom Sayers, Joaquin Skinaway-Fineday, Sheldon Hill.
