NiiyoGabowik (fourth woman standing), Marilyn Jean (Fineday) Wind of the Makwaa Clan… was born on July 30, 1967 to Barbara J. Fineday and John J. Wind SR in Cass Lake, MN. Marilyn began her journey across the stars on Thursday, October 23, 2025 with loved ones by her side.
Marilyn was a loving mother and proud grandmother. Whenever you saw Marilyn out, she always had her grandkids with her. She comes from a long line of powerful matriarchs and our community saw the life she had in her heart. She loved spending her time with family; enjoyed playing bingo, game of ‘31’, music, movies, cruising, rummaging, volleyball, fixing up her home & yard. She had a love for her vehicles and took pride in them. Marilyn was an active member of the Leech Lake Constitution Delegation Reform and the Wiidookodaadiwag Coalition for Drug Prevention. She was employed 40+ years for Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in different capacities, such as TERO program, Alcohol and Drug Division, Education, Leech Lake Child Welfare and Family Spirit.
Marilyn survived by her children: Derek Daniel Kingbird Jr (Amber Schaaf), Cassandra Kaye Kingbird, David Lee Kingbird, Andrea Elena Wind & Sylvianna Peake-Morin; grandchildren: Jerrin Lee Wilson Jr (Jorgie Boswell), Anthony Robinson, Derek Robinson, Calista Kelise Morin, Charles Kingbird Jr., Jarvis Wilson, Mason Kingbird, Daniel Kingbird, Ambrose Kingbird, Arnold Kingbird, Adelso Kingbird; sisters: Diane Fineday, Dawn Fineday; brothers: John Wind Jr, Charles Wind, Reginald Wind Sr. Donovan Wind Sr., Fabian Wind, Gordon Fineday, Robert Fineday; and close extended family: Elizabeth Kingbird and Diane Kingbird-Whitebird.
Marilyn is reunited with her son: Charles A. Kingbird Sr; granddaughter: Abinooji Kingbird-Bushey; sisters: Sheryl Fineday-Hill & Ruth Wind; parents: Barbara J. Fineday, John J. Wind Sr, Gordon K. Headbird; and aunt & uncle: Karyn & Donald Wind Sr.
Traditional services will start at 5 PM on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the White Earth Office Building downtown Cass Lake and will continue until the service at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 with Allen Hardy as Spiritual Leader. Active Pallbearers will be Charles Wind, Reginald Wind Sr. Donovan Wind Sr., Fabian Wind, Gordon Fineday, Robert Fineday, Tony Wind and Ron Wind. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elizabeth Kingbird, Carol Charnoski, Derek Kingbird Jr, Diane Kingbird, Traci Cloud, Deb Cournoyer, Bobbi Norby, Sally Fineday. Burial will be at Mission Corner Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, Serving Northern Minnesota.
