Markus Harley Hilliard, Akiiwenzi “Old Man”, age 19, began his journey to the spirit world on July 17, 2026.

Markus was born on April 23, 2007 to Charles Hilliard and Teresa Cloud in Minneapolis, MN. Markus attended Red Lake High School and the Alternative Learning Center. He liked basketball and video games. He liked hanging with older brother Chaska Crowghost and cruising with Healing Center staff.

Markus is survived by siblings Chaska Crowghost, Endonnis Crowghost and Avery Norquay; grandfather Fabian Sayers Sr; uncle Fabian Cloud; aunts Sugie Roberts, Sandra Cloud and Orianna Kimbrell; and numerous relatives.

He is preceded in death by his mother Teresa R. Cloud; father Charles “Chuck” Hilliard; brother Lawrence Norquay Jr; grandparent Karen Cloud; auntie Angela and Nadine Cloud; and great-grandparents Wallace & Betty Cloud and Ethel Sayers.

A wake will begin at 2 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at the Ponemah Boys & Girls Club until the funeral at 10 AM on Friday, July 24, 2026 with Spiritual Leaders Zac Earley and Ty Stately. Active Pallbearers will be Izaiah Villiard, Jordan Cloud Jr, Cole Spears, Tyrell Atkinson, Jordan Cloud Sr, Joseph Vital, Connor Graves. Alternate: Reed Washek. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nicole & family, Lariah & Ryleigh, Betty, Jade, Kyriah, Kylah, Mikayla & Logan, Vickey, Shayna, Nellie, Autumn & Lexie, LaResha, Destinee, Diamond, Red Lake Youth Shelter & Healing Center Staff. Burial will be at the Cloud Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
