Mary Gibbs

Mary Gibbs, age 94, began her journey to the Spirit World on February 27, 2025.

Mary was born to Baptiste and Elizabeth (Bellanger) Jourdain.  Mary was the 2nd child of 8.  She lived most of her life in Minneapolis, working and raising her children.  Mary worked for many years at Raymond Industries and in her later years, she earned a Culinary Arts Degree.  Mary practiced her skills with cooking and catering at the MAIC and UMAIC until her retirement. Mary had many accomplishments in her life. In 2009, Mary made her home in Redby, Minnesota.

Mary loved her family and extended family, especially her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, they all meant so much to her.  She loved to be surrounded by her family.  Mary enjoyed cooking, traveling, going to the casino, playing bingo, rummaging and going to estate sales.  She loved her music and eating at her favorite restaurants.  Mary was quick-witted and had a fun sense of humor. She loved to tell her stories to all.   Mary’s legacy will live on to those who were impacted with her love and her humor.

Mary is survived by her daughter Audrey Jourdain and brother Richard Jourdain.  She is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was very close to and had special bonds with Angela (Peto) Azure, Kassia Jourdain, Adrienne (Sam) Morris, Lawrence “Roadz” Gibbs, Vanessa (George) Gibbs, and Garrett Gibbs, Jr.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, Baptiste and Elizabeth Jourdain, step-mother Eliza Jourdain, husband Oliver Gibbs, Companion George Humphrey, Daughters Carol E. Parisien, Ramona Gibbs, and Jean Marie Goodman; Sons Oliver Gibbs, Jr., Gordon Gibbs, Garrett Gibbs and Sheldon R. Gibbs, and Granddaughter Delores (Chiefy) Gibbs, Sisters Pauline Jones, Lucille Auginash, Elsie Jackson and Patricia Morgan, Brothers Francis and Joseph Jourdain.

An overnight wake will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Redby Community Center in Redby and will continue until the service at 11 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025 with George Ross.  Active pallbearers will be:  Casey Azure, George Lafave, Jack Reyes, Jevan Rasmusson, Peto Azure.  Honorary pallbearers will be: All her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, Evelyn McKenzie, Eileen Johnson, Jody Beaulieu, Joyce Yellowhammer, Gert Buckanaga, June Holstein, Diane Gibbs, Allen Pemberton, Big Jim Scholtes, Kenny Grey, Shirley Keezer-Miner, Felicia Cloud, Barb Beaulieu, Julian Walker, Emma Gibbs, John Luke Azure, Oliver “Bubby” Jourdain-Rasmusson, and Julianna “Lil Miss” Jourdain-Rasmusson.
