Michael Lee Martin Sr., Waabishki Ma’iingan “White Wolf” of the Bear Clan, age 44, began his journey to the Happy Hunting Grounds on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his home in Wilton, MN.
Michael was born on June 19, 1980, in Red Lake, MN, to Donna (Martin) Prentice and Myron Sumner. He graduated from Red Lake High School in 1998 and was a Red Lake Nation College student. Michael was an athlete who loved playing basketball and softball. He enjoyed managing his fantasy leagues and cheering for the Atlanta Braves, LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, and Duke Blue Devils. He liked going to the casino to play Keno and watching his favorite shows, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and CSI Miami, and Marvel movies and TV shows. He loved listening to Taylor Swift, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children, family, and friends.
Michael will be lovingly remembered by the mother of his children Paula Roy and their children, Michaeyla “DeeDee,” Myah “Martinez,” Michael Jr., Maleigha “Golly,” Mallory “Rosie,” Madeline "Jo", and Maci Martin; Brothers Jeremy (Dawn) Martin Sr., Charles “Chaz” Prentice Jr.; Sister Paula Prentice; Uncles Charles “Tiny Man” (Faythe), Gerald “Tubbs” (Wendy), William “Bill,” and Myron (Tootsie) Martin; Nephews Tyler Brown, Jayce “BooBoo” and Dontez “Tezzy” Martin, Carter Barrett, Donald “DJ,” Jayden and Jaxon Prentice; Special Nephews Jeremy Jr. “Sonny” and James Martin; Nieces Chelise Brown, Kylie Jo Beaulieu, Yasmine and Charli Prentice; Special Niece Daliyah “Liyah” Martin who he called “Kowski,” and numerous family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Donna; Father, Myron; Bonus Father, Charles Prentice Sr.; Grandparents, Marion and Charles Martin Sr., Angeline and Simon Sumner; Cousins, Shawn Martin, Angela Beaulieu, Thomas Sumner; Aunts, Elizabeth “Betty” Beaulieu and Charlene Martin; Uncles, Edward “Ounch,” Henry “Stretch,” Richard “Dickie” and Douglas Sumner.
The wake will begin at 11 AM on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the New Little Rock Community Center and continue until the service at 10 AM on Sunday, November 17, 2024 with Spiritual Leader Kelly Iceman Sr. Active Pallbearers will be Michael “Mick” Fasthorse, Jeremy “Jerome” Spears, Dave Dudley Sr, Chris Roy Sr, Dan Roy Sr, Gerald Kingbird Sr, Robert “Bob” Smith and Andrew “Andy” Kingbird Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Original Little Rock Softball Team, ’97 Warriors Basketball Team, Hurricanes Softball Team, N8ive Ballaz Basketball Team, Wilbert Maxwell Jr., Justin Donnell, Robert “Rob-O” Roy, Brandon Desjarlait, Ramon Sayers, Craig Sayers, Greg Strong, Marvin Rainey, Stephan Howard, Onie Pemberton, Lilah Sayers, Wilma Roy-Mondragon, Dawn Martin-Sayers, Glennis Johns, Rita Beaulieu, Thelma May, Salina Jones, Lea Cook, Codi Packineau, Anna Oakgrove, Kristie Desjarlait, Billie Jean King, Tiffani Schoenborn, Valerie Cash, Rose Head and all of Michael’s many friends.
