Michael James Ostlund Sr.

Michael James Ostlund Sr., Ogimaa Binesi “Leading Thunderbird”, age 53, of Redby, MN, began his journey to the spirit world on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from Sanford Broadway Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Mike was born on December 13, 1970, in Big Fork, MN, to Frances (Rushman) and Roger Smith. He grew up in  Big Falls, MN, and made his home in Redby, MN. He worked various jobs as a mechanic, his passion was working on cars. He also worked at a potato farm during Fall season and was a logger during his younger years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his lifelong partner, Renee Clark of Redby, MN; his children: Michael (Angel) Ostlund Jr., Shanise (Adrian) Livingston, Delaney (Justice) Ostlund all of Bemidji, MN, and Cherai (Dayon) Clark of Redby; grandchildren: ShayLynn, Kaydence, Robyn, Carter, Robbie Jr., Le’Vonte, Christifer Jr., Carson, Clayton, Lovelynn and Diamond; his father, Roger Smith; brothers: Gorden and Mark Smith; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Those greeting him in the spirit world are: his children: Shalyssa Ostlund, Angel Baby Ostlund-Clark, Angel Baby Ostlund-Donnell; his mother, Frances Smith; sister, Sherry Ostlund; brothers: Roger Sr, Thomas and Virgil Ravensborg; aunts: Leojean Rushman, Lavina Rushman, Emma Knudson; uncle, Henry Rushman; great-niece, Savannah Ravensborg.

A traditional wake will begin at Noon on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the Redby Community Center in Redby and continue until the service on Friday, June 7, 2024. Active pallbearers will be: Gorden Smith, Michael Ostlund Jr., Carl Fairbanks, Sr., Carter Ostlund, Shane Clark, Roger Ravensborg Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Michael’s grandchildren, kids, nieces and nephews; special cousins: Karen Saunders, Sherry Christianson, Moe Rushman, Darryl Bohn. Burial will be at the Ravensborg Family Burial Grounds in Redby. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
