Micheal Hawk

Micheal James Hawk “Maka Dewi gaboo” – Black Man Standing, age 62, of Ponemah, MN, began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. 

Micheal was born in Red Lake, MN to Bradley Senogles and Justina Hawk.  The couple who raised him and who Micheal considered his parents, were Leonard and Gladys Hawk.  He grew up in Ponemah and lived there with his cat, Pawz until his death.  Micheal was quiet but very loving and caring about all the people he met over the years. He loved doing craftwork, beading, and singing at pow wows with the Kingbird Singers.  Most of all, he loved playing cribbage with friends and family.  Through his last days his heart was still with all his friends and family but most of all his grandkids.

Micheal will be greatly missed by his two sons:  Sheldon (Jerilee) Smith of Red Lake, Tyrone (Justina) Smith of Ponemah, his two daughters:  Justina Hawk of Red Lake and Tashina (Anthony) Hawk of Red Lake and his grandchildren.

Those welcoming Micheal home will be his parents: Bradley Senogles and Justina Hawk; his adoptive parents: Leonard and Gladys Hawk; sister, Donna Hawk; brothers: Gerald “Jiggy” Hawk and Deland Hawk as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins.

The wake will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Ponemah Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah and continue until the service at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.  Allen Hardy will be the Spiritual Leader.  Active casketbearers will be:  Verlin Kingbird, James “Yumi” Kingbird, Daniel Hawk, Harold Johnson, Jr., James “Jimboy” Kingbird and the Red Creek Singers.  Honorary casketbearers will be: Michael Spears, Jay Wiese, Alvin Johnson, Sr., Justin French, Dewey French and the Kingbird singers.  Burial will be at the Hawk Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah.
