Mickey Earl May Sr

Mickey Earl May Sr, “Giniwigwan” Golden Eagle Feather, of the Bear Clan of Red Lake, MN, passed away at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born in Bemidji, MN, on September 5, 1987, the son of Flora Jones and Chief Gerald May Sr.

Mick loved to cook, collect things, listen to music, go fishing, ride 4 wheelers, play bass and guitar. He played in a couple bands with his brothers and nephews. He opened up for Blue Oyster Cult and David Allan Coe. Mick attended many concerts with family and friends. He worked for the school cleaning and cooking, and the halfway house. He was always helping who he could. Mick had lots of friends, but his kids were his bestest friends and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Mick is preceded in death by his grandmothers Margaret M. May and Vivian S. Jones; grandfathers Philip Mick May and Earl L. Jones; great-grandmothers Mary K. Sumnar, Cora May, Mary J. Jones; great-grandfathers Joseph K. Sumner, Alfred Jack Jones and Antone May; aunties Georgia Roy and Mona May; uncle David May; great-niece Avielle Johnson; nephew Anthony May; and brother Steven May.

Those Mick leaves behind to forever cherish his loving memory are his father Chief Gerald P. May Sr; mother Flora J. Jones; brothers Clem (Anita) May Sr, Gerald P. May Jr (Bri); sister Corinne M. May (Sheldon); son Mickey E. May Jr; daughter Mika J. May; nephews Charles, Clem Jr, Jacob; and Nieces Ashley, Amber, Alise, Aimee, Layla, Kylie, D'Shel (Michael) and D'Shaye (Luis).

A wake will begin at 1 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the New Red Lake Center and will continue until the service at 1 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026 with Spiritual Leader Floyd “Buck” Jourdain. Active Pallbearers will be Clem May Sr, Charles G. May, Roderick “Mister” Sayers, William “Bee” Sayers, Ryan Auginash, John Jourdain, Vince May, Robert Cook. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bri May, Great Walker, Sheldon Bailey, Shawn May, Birch Johnson, Johnny Thayer, Tom Sayers, Katrina Mondragon, Rose McKenzie, Vince May, Connie Neadeau, Becky Jones and his nieces and nephews. Burial will be at the May Family Burial Grounds in Red Lake, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
