Oliver R. Johnson Sr., Makoons, age 79, began his spiritual journey from the Red Lake Hospital surrounded by loving family on October 5, 2024.
Oliver was born on September 9, 1945, in Red Lake, MN to Albert and Alice (Gibbs) Johnson. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and picking boughs. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and cruising around with his nephews and children. He was a talented artist and guitar player, playing at the Redby PTL and many revivals. Oliver loved all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They meant the world to him and he will be deeply missed by his family, relatives and friends.
Oliver is survived by his 15 children: Patty, Alberta, Shari, Steve, Stephanie, Oliver Jr., Marlena, Owen, Guy, Alice, Jim, Josh, Richard, Alissa and Albert; 59 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; special nephews: Franklin Spike, Jerry and Terry Lussier; special sisters: Elaine and Charlotte Johnson; special granddaughters: Macy and Cynthia “Tiny” Johnson; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Alice Johnson; sisters: Doris and Alberta; nephews: Greg, Jim, Arlen, Ricardo and Justin; nieces: Patty Lynn, Lori and Theresa; great-niece, Alicia; grandchildren: Darrell, Daniel; and special partner, Ann.
The wake will begin at 1PM on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Redby Community Center and continue until the service at 1PM on Friday, October 11, 2024 with Pastor Tom Pollock officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Jim, Richard and Guy Johnson, Doug Smith, Phil Jourdain, Donald Perkins Jr., and alternate, Terrance Lussier. Honorary pallbearers will be: Terry and Jerry Lussier, Anita, Roberta and Les Gibbs, Elaine and Charlotte Johnson, Tina and Bob Roybal, Pat Defoe and Floyd “Buck” Jourdain. Burial will be at Fox Point Cemetery in Redby. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker and Hackensack (whisperingpinesnorth.com).
