Peter John Hunt

Peter John Hunt, age 70, began his journey to the spirit world on Thursday, September 12, 2024 in Bemidji, Minnesota.

Peter was born on November 23, 1953 to Frank Taylor and Louella Mary Hunt in Cass Lake, Minnesota. He grew up in the Cass Lake area and attended the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School before going into the Marines. Basketball and softball were more than a hobby with Peter (aka Slippery) and he played with Anishinabe and CHIPPS. He loved all sports! He loved fishing and joking around. He was happy-go-lucky, enjoyed life and was loved by everyone!

Peter is survived by two sons Dwight (Cassandra) Jones and John Jones; daughter Jenny Smith (Luke French); 11 grandchildren Tristian Jones, Elijah Jones, Mikayla Jones, Aubriaunna Jones, Sincere Jones, Jazlyn Jones, Jalyssa Johnson, Devry Smith, Deidra French, Damian French and Dominic French; 2 great-grandchildren William and Christopher; sisters Beverly Jacobs and Pamela Jacobs; and brother George Jacobs Jr (Jake); and nephew George Jacobs.

He was preceded in death by son Pete Jones; brother Willie Jacobs; sister Helen Jacobs; his parents; and special friend Phyllis Gotchie.

A wake will begin at 7 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Cass Lake Facility Center and continue until the service at 1 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024 with Bill Butcher. Drum provided by Nick Budreau. Active Pallbearers will be Dwight Jones, Devery Smith, George Jacobs, Chad Budreau, Elias Budreau, Jarell Jacobs and Derek Wind. Honorary Pallbearers will be Minnesota CHIPPS Softball Team and Anishinabe Basketball Team, Jacob Budreau, Christopher Roybal, and all family and friends.
